A few years ago, I remember my son coming to me to tell me about a new game called Minecraft. He told me it was a game that was a mashup of digital legos and monster slayer. He went on about zombies, crafting, mining for ore and endermen.
I had no idea what he was talking about.
As the months went by I was finally persuaded to take a look at Minecraft. And as I had many times in my life as a gamer, I found a new form of digital crack. I was hooked.
Not since the early days of Sim City had I discovered a game that allowed you to make your world the way you wanted, but with more freedom than ever before.
If you aren’t familiar with Minecraft or haven’t heard the phrase “creepers gonna creep” by now, I’ll refer you to the Google machine where a search for “minecraft” will turn up more web pages than you could possibly consume in a lifetime. That’s what happens when more than 16 million people buy your game.
About a year ago while on Facebook, I saw that my friend Chris Brogan posted that he and his son had been playing Minecraft. I was delighted to see that Chris was into the game and I posted a “me too!” comment on his original post. We soon began discussing Minecraft in private discussion.
Fast-forward to Spring 2014. Chris had been approached by Que Publishing to create a set of Minecraft tutorial videos. For whatever reason, he opted to not accept this publishing deal. But knowing that I am a Minecraft fan, an avid gamer and an already-published author, he referred the nice people at Que to me.
To shorten an already-too-long story, I ended up signing on to do The Ultimate Guide to Minecraft, a set of video tutorials in the Que Publishing Video Series.
And to make things even better, I recruited my son, Zach, to join me in creating the Minecraft tutorials. A dedicated gamer of the best kind, Zach was a natural in extracting the kind of content that would be most helpful to viewers. As it turns out, he also has his father’s ability to narrate quite well! Perhaps the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree?
With that said, Zach, myself and Que Publishing are pleased to present the first set of Minecraft video tutorials in Que’s Video Series!
If you are wanting to know what the game is all about and how you can get started quickly and easily, these tutorials are for you! From getting started and surviving your first night to preparing for your first expedition and knowing how to outwit and outlast the various monsters, these tutorials will get you well on your way.
Here is a short sample of what you will experience as Zach and I take you into the rich world of Minecraft. I hope you enjoy the sample and encourage you to purchase the entire set of videos for immediate viewing.
