The Passion – Mel Gibson\’s labor of love

Finally, a movie that depicts the last day of Christ\’s life in a realistic manner.

Mel Gibson has gone against the flow of Hollyweird, stepping out to produce and direct The Passion, a project that has been close to his heart for many years. This movie depicts the last 12 hours of the life of Jesus Christ. And it isn\’t going to be easy to watch.

Just about every Jesus flick I have seen shows Him with a little dribble of blood here and a few lashes from the whip there. But that isn\’t how it happened. Read The Science of the Crucifixion for a look at what really happened to Jesus on the final day.

Even more interesting is that Jesus speaks Latin and Aramaic without the aid of subtitles! Talk about making it genuine!

Mel is catching TONS of flack for this film. The Jewish Defense League isn\’t happy with the portrayal of the Jews in the movie, and are calling Mel anti-Semitic. And there are Catholics that are skeptical the movie will conform with the four Gospels, Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. Gibson has assured the church that the script does conform to the Gospels as originally written. And the anti-Semitic charges are ludicrous, as the movie portrays the account accurately. There were Jews who did good things, and there were Jews who did bad things. I believe my Jewish brothers and sisters just don\’t like the fact that Mel has made this movie at all. The less they hear the name \”Jesus\” mentioned in the public square, the happier and less-threatened they feel.

It is Mel\’s faith that I find inspiring. While I disagree with Roman Catholic theology, I am not one to judge which Catholics are Christian or not. That is between them and their Creator. But from what I read about Mel Gibson, it seems like he is the real thing.

I, for one, am very eager to see what Mel has created. He is a great actor and a wonderful family man. He is also courageous enough to do what he wants to do in spite of the potential blackball from Hollywood. Way to go, Mel. Here\’s hoping your movie does justice to the story of Christ\’s love and suffering.
