Seussical the Musical

About three years ago, I came upon the soundtrack for Seussical the Musical at Amazon.com. Seussical is a Broadway production based on the works of the late Dr. Seuss. The story follows many favorite Seuss characters including The Cat in the Hat (the Narrator), Horton the Elephant, Mazie McBird, Gertrude McFuzz, a cast of Who\’s and many more favorites, in a family-friendly joyful walk down memory lane. My family and I have worn out the CD (if you could do such a thing with a CD… ah, I miss records…) and knew the words to many of the songs.

At that time, the musical was only on Broadway and I knew we weren\’t going to New York just to see the show, so we would wait until a touring group headed our way. Well, they finally made it to Oklahoma City and I took the family to see Seussical the Musical last night.

Once I hear a soundtrack recording many times, I am hopeful that the live production will live up to the recording. In the past, I have been disappointed with the translation from studio recording to the stage. In this case, the live production exceeded my expectations. An extremely talented and gifted group of musicians, singers, actors and dancers provided a much-needed respite from the dailyness of life.

I\’m not going to provide an in-depth review here, but I highly recommend seeing this show if it comes to your area. Zach and Jenna both enjoyed it thoroughly, and it gave me a few moments of feeling like a kid again.
