Do More Good Stuff

\"\"You can measure success in all sorts of different ways.

You can count the number of sales you make at a launch.

You can count the number of awards on your office bookshelf.

You can count the number of views, shares, or new subscribers a piece of content generates.

All of those measures will tell you how well you did. They’ll tell you whether your idea worked and whether there was a market for it.

But they won’t tell you whether you did good stuff.

Good stuff isn’t something that can be measured. It’s not something that should be measured.

It’s not about the results or the dollars or the views. It’s all about the process.

You probably spend at least forty hours a week doing work. That’s time you’re not with your family. It’s time you’re not helping our friends. It’s time you’re not walking in the woods, or sitting by a lake, or relaxing with a hot drink and a good book.

It should be time you enjoy. It should be fun.

Of course, work should be challenging. It should stretch you. It should move you out of our comfort zones and force you to look for abilities you never knew you possessed. But that’s only because there’s always something fun in doing that. Discovering something about yourself that you didn’t know is great.

But it shouldn’t feel like work. It should never feel like hard labor. Life’s too short for hustling and grinding. If you’re not enjoying your work—if you’re not doing good stuff that makes you happy—you’ve already failed.
In my experience, the best results have always come from the work I enjoyed the most. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. When you enjoy what you’re doing, there’s a good chance that other people will enjoy it too.

When you put good stuff out there, good stuff comes back!

\"Do Do Good Stuff Merch!

So much of being an entrepreneur is focused on the end result. We hear again and again about the importance of sacrifice and hard work. I’ve overheard too many business-builders boasting in hotel bars about their work rates as though there’s a prize for the first person to work twenty-six hours in a day.

There is no prize, and there is no point in working that way. It’s the hardest way to reach your goal.

That goal should be the satisfaction that comes from knowing you made a difference. Nothing beats that feeling—and here’s the best thing about it…

You don’t have to wait for it. It doesn’t have to come at the end. You don’t have to wait until you’ve worked yourself into retirement or an early grave before you can enjoy the satisfaction that doing good stuff brings. When you’re doing good stuff, you can get it all the time! It comes from knowing that you’re enjoying what you’re doing. It comes from knowing that other people are enjoying what you’re doing.

It comes constantly.

Do good stuff, and you won’t need to look for ways to measure your success. You’ll feel it, always.
