It will happen sooner of the later. The people of the state of California will eventually have a majority that will vote for same-sex marriages. Don\’t get me started on what it means to redefine the English language and the meaning of words.
But regardless of which side of the debate you stand, Governor Schwartzenegger has pledged to veto the bill recently passed by the California legislature, which usurps the will of the people of the state and affirms gay marriages by law.
Proposition 22 legalizing same-sex marriages, and voted on in the 2000 elections, was soundly defeated by an overwhelming majority of voters. However, the California legislature has taken matters into their own hands and ignored the voice of the majority.
Arnold\’s press secretary said \”We cannot have a system where the people vote and the Legislature derails that vote. Out of respect for the will of the people, the governor will veto (the bill).\”
Wow, a politician that actually listens to the will of the people? Or perhaps he is just pandering. Whatever the case, the public reason is sound and one that more politians and legislators should apply before attempting to pass any law.
