AdSense Mailbag – October 5th

Time to dig into the mailbag and answer questions from readers…

Question 1) I\’ve got ads on my site that I don\’t want. How do I block other sites from showing their ads on my site?

Answer 1) That\’s easy! Go to your AdSense account at www.google.com/adsense and click the \”AdSense Setup\” tab. Then click the \”Competitive Ad Filter\” link. Simply enter the url that you want to ban and it will disappear within a few hours.

Question 2) How can I tell if any of my sites are banned from displaying AdSense ads?

Answer 2) Well, assuming that your account is in good standing, go to the \”Reports\” tab and click \”Site Diagnostics\”. That will show you if there is a problem with ads displaying on any of your sites or pages.

Question 3) Hey Joel… I just would like to ask whether is it ok for me to submit my website home URL together with its subdomains\’ URLs to the well-known search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN? Will the website be banned by the SEs due to multiple submissions of the website\’s URLs?

Question 3) There is no reason to submit your subdomain urls as long as you link to them from the main index page. The purpose of the submission tool is to alert the spiders that your page exists. The spider\’s job is to then find the site and check out all the links on the main page. One submission should do the trick if your site is linked properly. Incidentally, the BEST way to get your site indexed is to link to it from a site that is already indexed and spidered.

Question 4) Joel, thanks for all your help. I have just a quick question – does Google allow you to display ebay ads on your site along with Adsense ads? I don\’t want to violate their requirements.

Answer 4) Since ebay ads are not contexually-based or similar to Google ads, you can use them alongside AdSense without hesitation. It\’s always smart to be proactive and ask, though! Great question!
