Groundhog Day

\"groundhog.jpg\"Groundhog Day? Not the movie, the holiday. (Thought I WILL be talking about the movie as I continue my series on The 15 Best Movies Ever).

Why talk about Groundhog Day today? Because from what I just learned, the great majority of you have no earthly idea what day it falls on!

Somehow, Mary and I got into a discussion about Groundhog Day and she asked me when it was? I said, \”Seriously? You don\’t know when Groundhog Day is? Everybody knows when Groundhog Day is!\” She guessed February 24th and I told her she was wrong. It is February 2nd.

I was aghast. How could anyone not know when Groundhog Day is?!?! She informed me that nobody (outside of Punxsutawney, PA) cares. I insisted that she was mistaken and I directed her to my office, where I promptly pulled out a phone book and began randomly dialing people to take a random survey.

Again, I was aghast. I was able to reach nine people. Two hung up on me. Two said they \”weren\’t interested\”. The other five? Not ONE of them knew when Groundhog Day is! The closest one guessed February 1st, but the rest didn\’t know or were way off. One lady told me she was from Kansas and they celebrate it there in the fall!

I briefly educated all five of these people of the correct date and thanked them for their time. As for me, I am shocked and stunned. Perhaps my sample was too small.

How many of YOU knew that Groundhog Day was February 2nd? Be honest please…
