Take Time Out to Reflect on Your Year

The holiday season can be pretty intense — presents to buy, social events to go to, cookies to eat, and through it all you are still running your online business. But don\’t forget to take some time out to sit down and reflect on the year that\’s passed and the one coming up. Doing so can bring your business and your efforts into sharper focus and help you know what you want to shoot for in the year to come. Here are a few tips for conducting your own year-end inventory:

What Did You Accomplish This Year?

Get out a pen and paper and write down the things you achieved this year. If you have access to any goals you set at the end of last year, dig them out and compare them to what actually happened. How did you do? The point of this exercise is definitely not to beat yourself up about the things that you didn\’t get done. Rather it is to celebrate the things you did do, whether they were on your list of goals or not, and to provide you with some feedback. Is that ebook you\’ve been meaning to write still hanging over your head because you never quite got around to it? Well, what is it going to take to get it done? And if it is no longer such a pressing goal, maybe it\’s time to give yourself a break and take it off your list.

Where Is Your Business At Right Now?

Take a good look at the present state of your online business and figure out areas you could improve on and where you could get the most return for your time and money. Make a plan for implementing changes in the year ahead that could really help you grow your business. Things you might need for this part of the inventory are bank statements, website stats, subscriber numbers, etc. Where would you like to be a year from now?

Plan Your Attack

The more concrete goals you can set, and the more concrete the action steps you can outline for the goals, the greater your chances of success. Break down the goals into tasks and put yourself on a schedule and a timeline. You might be surprised at just how much you can achieve if you narrow down your focus and put your mind to it.
